Company Chairman N. Chandrasekharan said at the event to introduce the new safari that the passenger vehicles market in India is moving towards focusing on the SUV segment. New Delhi, Feb 22 (PTI) Domestic automobile manufacturer Tata Motors on Monday launched the new Safari, strengthening the sports utility vehicle (SUV) segment. Its price starts at Rs 14.69 lakh. Company Chairman N. Chandrasekharan said at the event to introduce the new safari that the passenger vehicles market in India is moving towards focusing on the SUV segment. As such, Tata Motors is also trying to consolidate its position in this segment and is moving towards the goal of customers buying premium vehicles, including first-time buyers. The company is also leveraging Jaguar Land Rover experience. Tata Motors Safari was once a very popular SUV in the Indian market. Tata Motors has introduced a new safari to capitalize on the legacy of the same popularity. Its price has been kept from Rs 14.69 lakh to Rs 21.45 lakh. Its adventure version will be priced in the range of Rs 20.2 lakh to Rs 21.45 lakh. N. Chandrasekaran said that over the years the company has introduced various iconic brands like Sierra, Estate, Indica and Nano. He said that recently introduced vehicles such as Nexon, Altrose and Harrier presented the best standard in the class in terms of safety, design and performance. Chandrasekaran said, “The original Tata Safari is one such iconic brand. When it was introduced in 1998, it sparked the concept of lifestyle SUVs. Now we are very happy to bring the new Safari in its new avatar. I am delighted that both Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover have collaborated to help bring best-in-class products to Indian consumers. “The new Safari is based on Land Rover’s D8 platform. The company’s Harrier SUV is also built on this platform. The new Safari has options for six and seven seats. It has a two-liter diesel engine. It features six-speed manual and automatic transmission options as well as panoramic sunroof, reclining second row seats, ambient mood lighting, rear AC vents, multi drive modes.
