After Bangladesh’s first innings was over and they were bowled out for 227 on Day 1 of the second and final Test in Mirpur, Dhaka, Umesh Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin each got four wickets to put India in charge.
India had 19 runs and no losses toward the end of the first day. KL Rahul, the captain, scored three runs off thirty balls, while Shubman Gill scored fourteen making the betting spread better for wagers.
Mominul Haque amassed the highest runs with 84, but the home team continually lost wickets. Even though they elected to bat first, they ended their innings over an hour before the end of the day.
India was 19-0 with six overs remaining when bad light ended the first day of play.
Before Umesh’s ball got past Rishabh Pant, Mehidy Hasan Miraz smashed two fours in the penultimate session. The bowler immediately claimed another wicket after getting one to come in and trap Nurul Hasan lbw. When Taskin Ahmed attempted to hit a drive, the ball was collected by the point fielder on the leading edge.
India’s stand-in skipper K.L. Rahul was on three runs at the end of the day, while Shubman Gill was still on 14 runs. In the second-to-last over of the day, Shakib Al Hasan had Rahul leg-before on three, but after a review, the decision was reversed.
Fast Bowler and Off-Spinner Get it Done
As Bangladesh completed bowling on the first day, Umesh Yadav’s precise old-ball bowling and Ravichandran Ashwin’s consistent performance gave India complete control.
Mominul Haque’s 84 runs led the Bangladeshi team, but wickets kept falling. After tea, it appeared that Bangladesh had the upper hand, but the side led by Shakib Al Hasan lost their last five wickets for only 14 runs. Bangladesh’s last four batters could not score more than six runs due to the Indian bowlers’ consistent dismissals.
Shakib attempted to hit Umesh over mid-off after lunch, but a defender caught it. India won the match immediately after lunch. Mominul and Rahim were able to maintain their composure despite receiving a boundary.
When Rahim struck Ashwin for three boundaries through cover, mid-on, and point, the floodgates were opened for Bangladesh. Mominul joined in on the fun by flicking Jaydev past midwicket twice for successive boundaries.
Bangladesh won the toss of the coin and elected to bat first. Mominul replaced Yasir Ali, who was injured, while Taskin Ahmed replaced the injured Ebadot Hossain. Jaydev Unadkat replaced Kuldeep Yadav as the spinner in India’s first Test match in nearly 12 years.
When Ashwin entered the field, Mominul was outside the off-stump chasing a wide carrom ball. The ball snuck in and struck the keeper’s glove before going behind him.
Khaled Ahmed smashed a full toss to deep midwicket, giving Ashwin his fourth wicket. On his 12th Test, in addition to Umesh and Ashwin, Jaydev Unadkat captured two wickets and performed admirably with his precision and additional bounce.
Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Litton Das batted in the afternoon. However, neither batsman could endure long enough to produce a significant score since India kept striking them. In only his second Test, Jaydev Unadkat’s accuracy and ability to challenge Bangladesh batters with seam and additional bounce were impressive.
Bangladesh Had Hopes
In the current series, Bangladesh’s bowlers have been “excellent” at keeping India’s Virat Kohli quiet, and bowling coach Allan Donald believed that trend would continue in Thursday’s second Test.
India ended the day with 19 runs and no losses, with KL Rahul and Shubman Gill on three off 30 balls (14 batting, 20 balls).
Some of the balls bowled by Bangladeshi spinners were going square, and dropping Kuldeep Yadav, who had won the previous Test, appeared to be a difficult choice.
Umesh frequently pitched the ball high and was India’s finest bowler. It was reassuring to see that, in addition to his usual outswinger, he has developed a powerful inswinger, which he used to dispatch Nurul Hasan.
Using a probing channel and the slowness of the pitch, he also took the crucial wickets of Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
Litton Das batted vigorously and hammered two fours and a six, but he could not maintain his strong form and instead flicked a full-length delivery from Ashwin to the captain, KL Rahul.
Mominul, on the other hand, kept his cool and did his job discreetly, scoring 12 fours and a six.
