Jofra Archer will represent England in the forthcoming three-match ODI series in South Africa. This will be his first international appearance since March 2021, and fans will explore sports betting while waiting for his debut.
Archer has been selected for England’s 14-man squad for the three-match series against South Africa, which begins in Bloemfontein on January 27.
Harry Brook, who was voted Player of the Series when England swept Pakistan in a Test series earlier this month, has also been selected for the first time to an England ODI squad. Ben Duckett, who also performed well in the Test series and appeared in three One-Day Internationals against Bangladesh in 2016, has also been recalled.
Archer Makes His Return
Archer’s international career began in 2019 on an exciting note. He delivered the super over in the World Cup final and finished the summer with 22 wickets in the Ashes series. Since then, though, he has yet to make much progress.
In May, he suffered a stress fracture in his back, which prevented him from playing for the remainder of the season.
Archer missed the entirety of the 2022 English season due to injury. Last month in Abu Dhabi, he played for the second-string England Lions against the Test team as a warm-up before England defeated Pakistan 3-0.
Archer has not played for England since a Twenty20 match against India in Ahmedabad 21 months ago. His fracture was first caused by an elbow condition that flared up in 2020. In May of this year, after two surgeries, the seaman was almost ready to return to duty when he suffered a stress fracture in his back.
According to a statement released by the England and Wales Cricket Board on Thursday, Archer is “recovering well after an elbow injury” and is expected to return to international cricket in South Africa next month.
Archer will be a member of a fourteen-man squad that will compete in three matches in South Africa. This series was initially canceled in December 2020 because of a Covid-19 scare that brought England back home early.
With his first call-up for an ODI, Harry Brook’s ascent to prominence continues. This follows his significant contributions to the historic Test victory in Pakistan and the T20 World Cup victory.
The 23-year-old has been a regular throughout England’s hectic winter calendar but has not been allowed a respite before the February Test in New Zealand.
Former England bowler Steven Finn believes Archer will play a significant role in the series.
Finn stated on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra, “He wouldn’t be on a 14-man team if they didn’t anticipate him to play a significant role in the series.”
“England does not use entire international matches to train its players, as it is not their practice. It’s unfortunate that he’s missed so much cricket, as he is currently at the height of his form.”
The Squad
Joe Root and Mark Wood, who can play in multiple formats, were given a break before the New Zealand Tests in February. Jonny Bairstow is still healing from a leg injury he sustained in September after tripping on a golf course.
Ben Stokes departed one-day international cricket, but India’s head coach Matthew Mott has already expressed his optimism that the all-rounder may reconsider his mind before the next World Cup.
But Rehan Ahmed, a newbie, will not be on tour. The 18-year-old leg-spinner created history by becoming the youngest player in Test history to grab five wickets in his debut.
Mark Wood and Joe Root have been granted a break, and Yorkshire batsman Harry Brook has been selected to play in his debut ODI.
In three Tests against Pakistan, Brook scored three centuries, giving him the most runs of any England batsman on a trip to Pakistan.
Root has joined the Dubai Capitals for the International League T20, which runs from January 13 to February 12 in the United Arab Emirates.
Liam Livingstone has been ruled out of the first Test in Rawalpindi after suffering a knee injury on the second day.
The series will help England prepare for its fall defense of the 50-over world championship in India. Two weeks after the last ODI, England will tour New Zealand for two Tests.
Reece Topley has also been added to the roster. The night before the T20 World Cup, the Surrey pitcher injured his ankle and could not compete. Nonetheless, he is anticipated to be fit for the three-game series.
Ben Duckett, who performed admirably as an opener when England defeated Pakistan 3-0 in a Test series, will also participate in an ODI for the first time since 2016. Jos Buttler will serve as captain of the team.
