SMC ELECTION: Page committee formula failed, committee members did not reach polling station

BJP claims 58 thousand page committees in all 30 wards of Surat metropolis, each page has 30 members and 17 lakh 40 thousand while the total voting figure is not even 15 lakh

face. The results of the BJP’s page committee campaign before the local civic elections caught up with the party workers in the entire Surat metropolis, similar results were not seen during the Surat metropolitan election on Sunday. The apathy towards voting was so dominated that according to the BJP’s claim, out of the total members of 58,000 page committees, two and a half lakh members have not reached the polling stations on Sunday itself.
In the by-election of eight assembly seats of the state in November last year, the BJP had a tremendous success and gave much importance to the innovative use of the page committee campaign of BJP new state president CR Patil. In an attempt to try this innovative experiment in six civic bodies of the state including Surat Municipal Corporation in local body elections, 58 thousand nearly page committees were set up in Surat metropolis alone. According to 30 members in each page committee, this number reaches 17 lakh 40 thousand. It has also been learned that behind 58 thousand page committees for 3 thousand 185 polling booths of 30 wards of Surat Mahanagar Palika, hundreds of BJP workers were waiting for tickets in Manpa elections when page committees were being made in the city Were.
Now when the voting for the Surat Municipal Corporation elections was completed on Sunday, the voting percentage has been close to 43 per cent and according to this, 14 lakh 10 thousand out of 32 lakh 88 thousand voters have used their votes. The difference of 3 lakh 30 thousand is visible only in the number of voters who voted on Sunday and 17 lakh 40 thousand members of BJP’s 58 thousand page committees. This difference clearly shows that the members of BJP’s page committees did not reach the polling booths themselves, otherwise the increase in polling percentage could have been easily possible by 10-12 per cent. On the other hand, the local leaders of BJP in this regard were presently avoiding any kind of rhetoric, although they said that the page committee must have 30 members, but it was not possible in all the pages of all polling stations.
