On a tour of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, PM Modi handed over the Swadeshi Arjuna Main Battle Tank (MK-1A) to Army Chief General MM Narwane in Chennai. After this, PM Modi flagged off several development projects one after another in Tamil Nadu. PM Modi also inaugurated the Chennai Metro Project Phase-1 Extension.
After the launch of the plans in Tamil Nadu, PM Modi said, ‘Today we are starting an e-infrastructure project from Chennai, these projects are symbols of innovation and indigenous development. This will lead to further development of Tamil Nadu ‘. He said that Chennai Metro is developing rapidly, in this year’s budget, more than Rs 63,000 crore has been allocated for the second phase of this project.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the Discovery Campus of IIT Madras. The campus will be built at Thyyur near Chennai. In the first phase, construction of this campus to be built in an area of ​​more than 2 lakh square meters will cost Rs 1000 crore.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for expansion, renovation and modernization of the Grand Anicut Canal System. The canal will be modernized at a cost of Rs 2,640 crore, which will increase the water carrying capacity in the canals.
What is unique about Arjun Tank?
This tank worth 8 thousand 400 crores has been completely built in India. The first batch of the army will comprise 118 tanks. A lot of Arjun class tanks are already deployed along the Pakistan border in the western desert. From these 118 Arjuna tanks, two regiments will be formed in the armored corps in the army.
DRDO has been developing the Arjun Mark 1A battle tank for some time. The tank has been designed by the Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE) of DRDO. About two and a half years ago, Arjun Tank signed a contract to supply new versions. Out of these 5 tanks were to be handed over to the army by the PM today.
Not only this, PM Modi also launched the first phase of the Chennai Metro Rail Project on this tour. It has cost Rs 3,770 crore to complete this expanded project. It will connect North Chennai with airports and railway stations. Apart from this, the Prime Minister also inaugurated the fourth rail line between Chennai beach and Attipattu.
