Kochi, 13 February (PTI) In a setback to the ruling LDF in the state ahead of the assembly elections in Kerala, a section of the Nationalist Congress Party has decided to part ways with the CPI-M led coalition and join the Congress-led UDF. MLA Mani C Kappan, who is leading this faction of NCP, said that the ‘Aishwarya Kerala’ Yatra led by senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala will be included when he reaches Pala in Kattayam district on Sunday. . Kappan won from Pala as an LDF candidate in the 2019 assembly by-election. He claimed that he has the support of seven district presidents and nine state officials. Kappan has revolted against the LDF leadership of the state amid reports of the Pala assembly seat being given to the Kerala Congress (M). Kerala Congress (M) President Jose K. Mani recently joined the ruling coalition after breaking his ties with the UDF for decades. Kappan, while speaking to reporters, hoped that the UDF would join his faction in the coalition. Kerala Transport Minister AK Sasindran, who led a rival faction of the Rankapa, has criticized Kappan’s decision to join the UDF. However, the NCP national leadership has not commented on this. Welcoming Kappan to the UDF, Chennithala said in Idukki that Kappan’s decision to join the opposition alliance would strengthen the UDF in the assembly elections. He said that he would be fielded from Pala as a UDF candidate.
