Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that the list of items related to defense industry which will not be imported from other countries, will be released next month. The Defense Minister also said that the purchase of defense equipment from private sectors will not be limited to 15 percent, rather it will go further than this. “The next list of items that will not be imported will be notified in March 2021,” Singh said in the ‘Webinar on Budget Announcement 2021-22: Galvanizing Efforts for Self-reliant India’.
Last year, the Ministry of Defense had prepared a list of 101 items whose imports would be banned. Singh also threw light on the plan to spend 130 billion dollars on military modernization in the next five years. He recently referred to the handing over of the construction of 83 light aircraft MK 1A, Tejas to HAL. The design of MK 1A has been prepared in the country itself and it is being constructed.
He said that contract for light combat helicopters will also be done soon. Their design has been prepared in the country itself. The Defense Minister said that the letter of intent for the Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) will be given to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, so that helicopters can be included in the armed forces on the country’s 75th Independence Day.
On the other hand, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday inaugurated the Skill Development Center (SDC) for fire safety training at DRDO. He said that in any accident due to fire, valuable life and property of people are damaged.
The SDC of Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), located in Pilkhua, Uttar Pradesh, is a unique institution of its kind in India. It was informed by DRDO that this center has been constructed using advanced technology and in it, the personnel of the Defense Fire Service will be trained to control the fire in real condition.
