Baroda scored a second successive victory in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021 (Vijay Hazare Trophy), defeating Tripura by 6 wickets on the back of an unbeaten century from captain Krunal Pandya. Baroda’s team is third in Group A with eight points from 2 matches.
After chasing the target of 303 runs set by Tripura, Baroda team won by losing 4 wickets with 6 balls to spare. Krunal Pandya scored an unbeaten 127 off 97 balls which included 20 fours and a six. Vishnu Solanki was out for 97 runs.
Krunal took one wicket in the bowling. For the upcoming T20 series against England (India vs England), Krunal has not got a place in Team India. The Indian team also has to play a 3-match ODI series from the visiting England. The team has not yet been selected for this. If Krunal continues to perform in further matches in the same way, then he can be included in his ODI team, before this, 29-year-old Krunal took 71 wickets in the first match against Goa and took 3 wickets.
Gujarat beats Goa
In other Group A matches, host Gujarat registered a second successive victory over Goa by eight wickets. Gujarat started their campaign with a three-wicket win against Chhattisgarh.
After winning the toss, the Goa team came back to bat for 159 runs in 45.4 overs. From Gujarat, left-arm spinner Hardik Patel took three wickets for 34 runs. In response, Gujarat scored 162 for two in 27.4 overs thanks to half-centuries from Priyank Panchal (57 not out) and Bhargava Merai (57 off 55 balls).
Hardik, Krunal Pandya meet under-19 cricketers in Gujarat
Goa started off to bat first. Arjan Nagwaswala (31/2) sent opener Aditya Kaushik (04) to the pavilion while Hardik bowled out second opener Ishan Gadekar (18) to take Goa to two for 41. Gujarat took wickets at regular intervals and the Goa batsmen did not keep playing. Snehal Kauthankar (23) also failed to take advantage of a good start. Hardik lbw him out.
Captain Amit Verma (15) and Suyesh Prabhudesai (03) also returned to the pavilion early, taking Goa’s score to 78 for five. Wicketkeeper KD Eknath played a 62-ball 36-run innings to take the team’s score beyond 120 runs. Arjan gave Goa the sixth blow by dismissing Eknath for a score of 123 in the 39th over. Darshan Misal, who came in to bat at number seven, scored 44 runs with the help of four fours and played a key role in bringing the team’s score to 150.
Gaja and Chawla took 2-2 wickets
For Gujarat, fast bowler Chintan Gaja (31/2) and spinner Piyush Chawla (32/2) also took two wickets each. Chasing the target, Gujarat got off to a good start with Dhruv Rawal (37 off 26 balls) and Panchal adding 53 runs for the first wicket. Panchal and Merai then added 92 runs for the second wicket to take the match away from Goa’s reach.
