New Delhi, 20 February (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday stressed on the need to repeal the outdated laws and make the system more accessible to businesses, and said that the unity of the Center and the states to achieve strong economic growth It is necessary to work with. Modi while addressing the Governing Council of NITI Aayog said that the private sector should also be given full opportunity to participate in the government’s self-reliant India campaign. He said, “The Center and the states will have to work together for the progress of the country … For economic progress, the government will have to respect the private sector and also give proper representation to it.” The way it has been welcomed is an indication that the country wants to move more rapidly on the path of development. He said that his government’s initiatives will give everyone an opportunity to contribute to the nation’s construction. Referring to the agriculture sector, the Prime Minister said that more attention should be paid to increasing the production of products like oilseeds, so that dependence on imports of edible oil etc. is reduced. He said, “This can be achieved only by giving direction to the farmers.” He said that the money spent on import of food items can go to the account of the farmers. Prime Minister Modi said that the policies of the government will help farmers to increase productivity and reduce food imports. He said that reforms are necessary to provide capital and technology to the agricultural sector. Modi also expressed the need to reduce the burden of compliance of rules and regulations on the people. In this context, the Prime Minister asked the states to form committees and sort out the rules, which have no utility in this era of new technology. He advised the states to attract investors through the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. He said that the government is spending on infrastructure development to increase demand and employment opportunities. He also said that the opening of Jan-Dhan bank accounts, free electricity and gas connections and proper vaccination has changed the lives of the poor. Emphasizing the empowerment of start-up units and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), Modi said, “Self-reliant India is not only to make India self-reliant but also to meet the needs of the rest of the world”. He also urged states to form committees to celebrate 75th Independence Day. The Prime Minister is the Chairman of the ex-officio NITI Aayog. The Governing Council, the apex body of the Commission, consists of the Chief Ministers of the States, Lt. Governors of Union Territories and several Union Ministers and senior officials.
