On 20 February, Preeti’s brother came to Gopalganj. After this, when he went to his village to meet his sister, the incident was known.
The daughter-in-law was burnt to death by her in-laws when Chhapia village of Nagar police station in Gopalganj district of Bihar failed to meet the demand of Rs 3 lakh in dowry. After this, the body was burnt to erase the evidence.
The deceased was Preeti Devi, wife of Vikas Sah of Chapia village. After getting information about this, the woman’s maternal uncle reached her in-laws and took information about the incident from the people around. Then reported the incident to the police of the city police station. After getting the information, SI HN Ram of the police station reached the spot with the police force and investigated the matter.
Murder if dowry is not completed
It is reported that Preeti, daughter of Nandlal Sah of Bala village of Nabiganj OP, Basantpur police station in Siwan district, was married in 2018 to Vikas son of Jagdish Sah of Chhapia village of Nagar police station. The relationship between the two was fine for a few days after marriage. But later the in-laws started demanding three lakh rupees in dowry. When the demand was not met, he was tortured.
On 20 February, Preeti’s brother came to Gopalganj. After this, when he went to his village to meet his sister, the incident was known. After getting information about the incident, he told the family about this. Family members filed a case with the police.
In-laws accused of assault
An FIR was lodged against five people on the statement of Nand Lal Sah, the father of the deceased, in the case of killing the woman and burning the body. Preity’s father-in-law Jagdis Sah, mother-in-law Ramawati Devi, husband Vikas Sah, brother-in-law Sandeep Kumar and Sonu Kumar have been named as accused in the FIR. Police took action in this case, father-in-law Jagdish Sah and brother-in-law Sonu Sah were arrested. Raids are being conducted to arrest the remaining absconding accused.
After getting information about Preeti’s murder and burning the dead body when her maternal uncle reached Chapia village, her in-laws started beating her. Some people of the village also supported him in the fight. When the police got the news of this, they reached the spot, after which the villagers fled from there. But the police arrested two people. Preeti’s parents have accused the in-laws of the assault.
