India NewsPrime Minister Narendra Modi.
There is a tremendous political stir in Bengal these days. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who reached West Bengal for the third time in a month, said on Monday that the central government gives money for development. But, the Bengal government sits on pressing that money. Before the extension of metro service, before flagging off many other development projects, Modi said that Bengal has now made up its mind to change. At the Hooghly rally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the method of giving importance to Calcutta in folk songs has now changed because now neither Kolkata has remained the same nor Bengal.
The Prime Minister spoke of policy before song and manner. He said that the policy of the Center is good but the intention of the government sitting in Bengal is bad. He gave the example of water life mission for this. Government of India gave more than 1700 crore rupees. But, the government spent only 609 crore rupees, the rest of the 1100 crore rupees sat there under pressure. This shows that the TMC government is not at all concerned about the daughters of West Bengal. Bengal’s daughter should get water or not.
When we did research on the issue raised by the Prime Minister in the context of West Bengal, it was found that in the case of the presence of arsenic in ground water, West Bengal is at the top of the whole country. Despite this, 1 out of every five people living in the countryside without clear water is from West Bengal. According to the central government’s data, out of 4 crore 11 lakh people who still do not get clean drinking, 78 lakh are in West Bengal. There is arsenic in the underground water in 83 blocks of the state. However, the quantity of fluoride in 43 blocks is more than the limit. Not only this, even in urban areas of West Bengal, only 56 per cent of the families get clean drinking, which is far below the national average of 70.6 per cent.
The Prime Minister also alleged that the work that should have been done long before the infrastructure, they are now going to start. I am surprised that all the governments that have been in these years left this historical area on their own. The infrastructure here was disturbed. Vande Mataram Bhawan where Bankim has been in five years is in a very bad condition. This is where he churned with Vande Mataram. Vande Mataram who inspired the movement of Adadi. The Prime Minister specifically mentioned Hooghly in his speech. He said that once upon a time, the jute industry of Hooghly was a hit. But, today the condition of this industry is disturbed. Hooghly itself is an example of where the chaos of the past year has led. Hooghly was the hub of the industries in India, there was jute industry on both sides. Were iron steel factories. Used to be exported. What is the situation of Hooghly today.
According to the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation, there are currently 59 jute mills in the state, but only 54 of these mills are in working condition and 2.5 lakh families are dependent on them for employment. It is a matter of concern that 14 jute mills have been closed in the last 22 years. The Prime Minister said that until the system of cut money in Bengal will not change. Unless food processing factories open. As long as farmers will not have the freedom to sell produce and unless the environment for investment does not change, nothing can happen here.
