23 February, Faridabad . On Monday, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) laid siege to the Gurugram University over the demand for students’ exams. The main gate was locked in the morning and shouted slogans. Hundreds of students then entered the university and sat on a dharna outside the main block. Hundreds of students from Dronacharya State College, Government Girls College, Sector 14, Government PG College, Sector 09 and Gurugram University Campus participated in this protest. The movement led by ABVP included the major demand of students to get both options online – online and change the pattern.
Media in-charge Ashish Rajput said that the ABVP delegation had given a memorandum to the university administration on Monday, a week ago, demanding that students be given both offline and online options and change the pattern. The delegation, led by Parijat Shastri, assured the university that an official announcement would be made in two-three days. But even after a week, there was no announcement. Department convenor Gaurav said that offline classes in colleges have been very low due to which syllabus has not been completed. Only Khanapurti has been in online class. That is why we have made these demands. Student leader Simran Raghav explained why offline examination is not compulsory when there is no offline education. Changing the pattern is the solution to the students’ problem.
Students from various colleges sat on a dharna outside the main block for about four hours. After this, the university administration several times said to give time for the meeting, which the students rejected. Finally, the university administration announced acceptance of the students’ demands and requested to end the protest. In the presence of Commerce Head Dr. Ashok Khanna, Dean of College Aman Vashistha and other staff, Controller of Examinations Dr. Badruddin announced to give both offline – online options to the students and also accepted the demand for pattern change. Students will now have to do any five questions in the examination without a unit system.
The performance ended after this announcement. ABVP leadership also included Parijat Shastri, Shyam Tomar, Simran Raghav, Daksha Dhul, Nitin Kaushik, Yogesh, Sahil, Rahul, Akshay Sharma etc.
