Further Rs 2,97,196.52 crore will be released during this financial year, out of which food subsidy for Punjab is Rs 1,16,653.96 crore as reflected in the PFMS. “PFMS refers to the Public Financial Module System. About Rs 24,841.56 crore is for Haryana. As per the budget presented recently, the food subsidy increased sharply to Rs 4,22,618.14 crore in the Revised Estimates (RE) of FY 2020-21 from Rs 1,15,569.68 crore in the budget estimate. The Center distributed free food grains to help the poor migrant from the effects of the COVID-19 epidemic. For the next financial year, food subsidy is estimated at Rs 2,42,836 crore. The ministry said, “The Government of India has no intention of abolishing the arteries in Punjab and Haryana and no instructions have been issued to eliminate the archeries from the mandi system.” This ensures that payment to all participants, including farmers, jobbers and mandis, will be ensured in a transparent manner.
